The Second Amendment, A Biography

2ndAmendment.jpg

If you are tired of arguing about guns but wish you knew more about the history of the Second Amendment, what we know about our founding fathers' views, and how that ties into today's discussion, Michael Waldman's book is the book for you. I use this book in my class, focusing on the culture of the Second Amendment. It's one of the most "neutral" books out there among the many books talking about guns. Many offer an all-or-nothing view of the gun debate – get rid of them all or end all gun restrictions.

Waldman started writing this book after the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, at Sandy Hook Elementary School. It's a modest book of fewer than 180 pages, making it a quick and easy read. He is the author of other books, including POTUS Speaks, My Fellow Americans, and calls home the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law. Since he was a speechwriter in the Clinton White House. You may worry the read will be one-sided, but you would be wrong. Take a look.
