The FBI has released its 2025 Active Shooter Report.
A few findings that stood out to me:
• Active shooter incidents increased from 24 to 34 in 2025.
• Nearly 68% of incidents were intentionally planned, underscoring once again that there are often opportunities for intervention before violence occurs.
• Offenders ranged in age from 16 to 77, reinforcing that there is no single demographic profile. That’s why recognizing when someone is on a pathway to violence remains so important.
• The report continues to reinforce a message I’ve shared for years: prevention starts with recognizing concerning behavior, taking reports seriously, and preparing people, not frightening them.
